About Newmills

Newmills is quite a small congregation set in the heart of the community which it serves. It is a very homely congregation, with a friendly atmosphere, and lots of activities throughout the week catering for all ages.
So where exactly is Newmills Church? Just to confuse you, there are actually two Newmills churches, one near Dungannon, Co Tyrone, and this one, between Portadown and Gilford. Here is a map that may help.

About our Minister
- The Reverend G. Best

gordon & pamela

My wife Pamela, our two children, Katie and Stuart, and I arrived in Newmills in April 1996. My chief areas of responsiblity are to: teach and preach the word of God as faithfully as I can; support and encourage from a spiritual dimension members of the congregation through pastoral visitation; and to help and guide those who wish to partake in the sacraments of the Church, and couples planning to get married. I teach a local school each week, and do a lot of work in the wider Church - through the Iveagh Presbytery, and the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church.
A minister's role is to serve the congregation, and I do this to the best of my ability under God. I endeavour in all my work to be faithful to God and to His Holy Word. However, I very much depend on the support and co-operation of the congregation in order to be as effective a preacher and pastor as possible. Please continue to remember us as a family in your prayers, and I look forward to meeting more folk in our district, and deepening the friendships which have already been made in the congregation.

Evening Service 6.30pm

Sunday service is the focal point of our congregation's week. The time when we join together to worship the Lord.

We worship in a simple and dignified manner, but we also try to be contempory and relevant in our worship. We try to involve the congreatation in the services - especially in Bible reading and prayers.

There are special services for events such as Christmas, Easter and Harvest, as well as Family services aimed more at children, and an annual Youth service taken by the teenagers.

Once a month, there is a special evening praise service, lead by our Praise Group, and includes testimonies, guest speakers, visiting singers and groups.

Special emphasis is placed on the preached Word to instruct, encourage and challenge us. The minister tries to make his teaching relevant and applicable to everyday situations, and usually preaches short expository series over a number of weeks. We trust that God will guide and bring His Word alive in the hearts of the congregation.

We encourage everyone to be diligent in their attendance at this Worship - at both morning and evening services! Without people in the pew, the preaching in the pulpit has little effect.
